TDK (David in the nightmare) certainly offers an interesting and thought provoking interpretation.
I am flattered, Meena, by your compliment. I was just reading Meena's blog this morning and was quite moved by her excellent story <a href="http://catawampusme.blogspot.com/2008/07/days-seem-to-pass-away-so-soon.html rel="nofollow">Crimson Bed and a Mannequin</a>. I hope she keeps writing.

You met Hecate, goddess of the dark Moon and of crossroads. According to "Goddesses In Everywoman," by Jean Shinoda Bolen, Hecate was the goddess who "ruled over the uncanny realms of ghosts and demons, sorcery and magic." Hecate was associated with Artemis because both were goddesses of the Moon, and Bolen says that women who embody Artemis as young women sometimes become Hecate as older women. Bolen says that Hecate accompanied Persephone when she returned from the underworld.

Why Hecate was goddess of the crossroads isn't obvious to me, but this dream suggests an explanation. And maybe when Robert Johnson met the devil at the crossroads, he met Hecate. The first part of the dream is about moving apartments. I'm going to interpret that as symbolizing the crossroads, a time when you make choices that affect your future path. The next part is about climbing four flights of stairs. Archetypically this means that the dream is about higher consciousness, trying to reach a more mature, wiser life stage. Hecate climbs the stairs slowly, showing that this is hard work. The heavy keys also symbolize that getting to this next stage of consciousness isn't easy or open at any time.

When you arrive at the highest floor, it's bigger than you expected. This symbolizes that you've left a smaller life behind and life is bigger when you reach the next stage of consciousness.

But there are many locked doors, symbolizing that much of this next stage of consciousness isn't open to you now.

Her studio is wide with tall windows, looking down on the world. You've finally reached the higher stage of consciousness. But it's not bright and airy. It's dark, with only pools of light. This repeats the theme that you've reached the next stage of consciousness, but it's barely accessible to you now.

The still men suggest what happens when you reach the crossroads and don't make a choice. If you stay in the crossroads without choosing one direction or another, this is your fate.

Then an anima figure appears, your repressed female energy. Then, just as you're about to connect with her, someone asks you to move around furniture. :-) This happens in all my dreams to. :-) Then your anima appears again, this time as a frightened kitten.

Then the emotional increases to let you know the importance of the dream, another almost-connection with your anima, and the dream ends. That's Jung 101, and a real psychologist could spend hours (and you could spend $$$$) analyzing it in more detail. :-)
